We started our day with a visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple. We climbed a couple hundred stairs to reach the top. While walking around we were able to witness many cultural activities such as people praying to the Buddha statues and we were even able to be blessed by a monk! We kneeled before him as he splashed water on us from bamboo reeds and then each of us received a white string bracelet. While descending the many steps we were able to shop around and take in the view.
Then we headed off to lunch where we enjoyed some traditional Thai food with a great view of a small pond. Afterward we were able to begin a long day of shopping for gifts and souvenirs. The first shop we stopped at was an umbrella shop where they hand-make traditional umbrellas and also hand paint many items right in front of you! They offer to paint anything...even the shirt on your back! Many of us got phone cases painted while others opted for purses or wallets to be personalized.

Then we stopped at the silk shop. We were able to see the silkworms and a cool depiction of their lifespan. The shop had things ranging from small trinkets to scarves, dresses, and shirts.
Our next stop was at a large jewelry store where many students found great items for a good deal.
Finally, we ended our shopping spree at the lacquer shop. We had a brief introduction to how they make the items and even how to tell if the gold plating is real or fake when buying items. The work in this shop was unbelievable. The hand crafted designs were breathtaking and many students were very happy with their finds in this shop.
After a brief rest at the hotel we all went out for dinner and some more walking around the local markets. Goodnight from Thailand!
