สวัสดี [sah-wah-dee-ha] - hello in Thai,
Day 4:
Yesterday we met with Top (the pharmacy business owner) to see the university in which he was a faculty member. Dr. Krebs and Top’s Dean exchange information to setup a future exchange program.
Later Top took us to the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. The hospital is 100 years old, and very historic. They have preserved the old hospital building and have recently built a brand new building that was state-of-the-art building with a gorgeous view of the city.
The new hospital building is less than two years old. Here are views of the hospital and gorgeous views of the city. You can see the tallest building in the city from here. They residents that we toured with compared this park to Central Park.
Hospital rooms overlooked this beautiful view!
This is the tallest building in a thailand, viewed from the hospital.
Last night we went to dinner in the W district, it was a great experience, the entire group had Mexican, it was excellent. After we went for an after dinner drink on a rooftop bar & restaurant. Bangkok is beautiful at night.
Day 5:
Today we went to the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health (Children’s Hospital). We learned about Dengue Fever which known as a children’s disease. It is contracted from an infected mosquito. If not properly treated it can be fatal. The peak season to contract is the summer (June & July). The U.S. does not have assess to the vaccine, however one is available in Thailand. 90% of patients with Dengue do not have symptoms. Dengue is in the same family as Zikka and Yellow Fever. We sat with an associate from the hospital to learn more about Dengue & Malaria
In the evening we went to Asiatique The Riverfront for the annual festival of Loy Krathong. People gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing beautiful lotus shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense and flowers onto the water.
ขอบคุณค่ะ [khob khun kha] - thank you in Thai,
Reesha
