Chiang Mai!

Greetings from Chiang Mai!

Today was a very busy day! We started the morning by packing the vans with our bags for Chiang Mai and heading to the Center for Vaccine Development at Mahidol University. We sat through a lecture on the development of the Dengue Vaccine and then got to tour the facility.

After, we had lunch and then headed to the airport to go to Chiang Mai. The flight was only an hour long, which isn’t compared to the 10 hour drive it would have taken. Once we got to the hotel, we unpacked and then headed to the Ploden Ruedee Night Market. Most of use ordered these huge grilled cheese sandwiches that were made from garlic bread, a couple people tried fried crickets and grasshoppers, and then we walked around shopping and checking out the markets. Everything is so much cheaper and better quality here compared to Bangkok.

Grilled cheese!

Fried crickets... I didn’t try any, but several students did!

Amanda, Jenny, and I went into this market for art, and I fell in love with several different pieces. The artwork is absolutely amazing here, and I wish I got some pictures of it but the ones I really liked had signs saying no pictures allowed. I am planning on going back later this week once I have done some more shopping and know how much money I have left before buying some. Some of the artists will make custom paintings for you, which I think is an amazing experience and a wonderful souvenir.

Tomorrow is laundry day and the all day cooking class! Until then, I hope you enjoy reading our adventures!
